BJD FAQ
Quick answers to the questions new collectors ask most.
What size should my first BJD be?
Choose the size you love most and can display comfortably. 1/4 (MSD) dolls are a popular first choice: they are easy to handle, have plenty of clothes available and cost less than 1/3 dolls.
Should I buy a fullset or a basic doll?
A fullset is ready to enjoy straight away and is good value. A basic doll lets you choose your own face-up, eyes and wig, but adding them can cost more in total.
How do I know a doll is authentic?
Buy from the official maker or an authorized dealer. Authentic dolls come with a certificate of authenticity (COA) and branded box. When buying second-hand, ask for the COA, box photos and the original purchase information.
What is a recast and why avoid it?
A recast is an unauthorized copy of an artist's doll. It harms the creators who design the sculpts, quality and resin safety are unreliable, and most communities do not accept recasts. Very low prices are a common warning sign.
How long does shipping take?
In-stock dolls usually ship within days. Many BJDs are made to order, which can take several weeks to months, plus international shipping. Check the stated production time before ordering.
Will I pay customs duties?
Depending on your country, import duties and taxes may be charged on delivery. Check your local rules for the order value before buying.
How much does a BJD cost?
Prices vary widely by size and maker, from small tiny dolls to large limited fullsets. Remember to budget for eyes, a wig, clothes, shoes and a stand.
Any advice for a first-time owner?
Take your time choosing, read the maker's size chart, buy a doll stand, keep the doll out of sunlight, and enjoy the community. Every doll becomes unique as you customize it.
