BJD GUIDE

Wigs & eyes

Wigs and eyes change a doll's look more than anything else. Measuring correctly saves time and money.

01

Measuring wig size

BJD wigs are sized by head circumference in inches. Wrap a soft tape measure around the widest part of the head, just above the eyebrows and over the back of the head, then match the result to the wig size (for example 7-8 or 8-9 inches). If you are between sizes, choose the larger one and tighten it with a wig cap.

02

Wig caps

  • Stretch caps fit a range of sizes and are the most common.
  • Hard caps keep their shape and suit structured styles.
  • A thin silicone or fabric wig cap under the wig prevents slipping and helps protect the resin from dye stains.
03

Wig fibres

  • Synthetic fibres are affordable, easy to care for and can be heat-styled at low temperatures if heat-resistant.
  • Mohair (natural goat hair) looks soft and realistic but is delicate and can tangle and shed.
  • Other natural fibres such as alpaca or sheepskin are used for fluffy, curly styles.
04

Eye size

Eyes are measured by their diameter in millimetres. Check the head's recommended size, since the eye opening matters more than the body size. Some eyes also list the iris size: a larger iris gives a younger, cuter look, a smaller iris a more mature look.

05

Eye materials

  • Glass: deep and realistic, but heavier and fragile.
  • Urethane: light, clear, durable and affordable, though it may cloud over time.
  • Resin: often handmade with rich, artistic iris designs and a glossy dome.
